Many thanks to the “Holy Cross Choir”  under the direction of Elaine Kallestad for providing the beautiful music at St. John's Church Sunday!

Thank you to St. Peter’s Youth Choir, the MasterSingers, for joining us in worship this Sunday at Holy Cross!  These talented voices come to us from Charlotte, NC, and are under the direction of Elizabeth Lenti.

12 Noon: Fellowship Time Skiles Hall

Thursday, August 17, 2017, Men’s Night Out, 6 to 8pm:  At Ray Lutz's home, 241 Old Crows Road, Valle Crucis, Banner Elk, NC (2 miles on left side of Dutch Creek Road).  We are hopeful that we can have barbecue that will be served at the fair.  Shared cost $8.00.  Bring your own beverage of choice.  Initially changed to August 24th due to conflicts, the Men’s Night Out will now meet as originally scheduled on August 17.  To ensure sufficient food, please RSVP to Ray at

Saturday, August 19, 2017 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. is the Diocesan Picnic at the Valle Crucis Conference Center.  Please join us for this special occasion! The diocese will provide hot dogs (regular and veggie) and lemonade, and each parish can bring dishes to share and a dessert for the dessert table. We will have lots of opportunities to play outside, enjoy the beauty of Valle Crucis Conference Center, hike, etc. Please email or phone Kathy at the office if you plan to attend so we can give an approximate number to the Diocese.

Monday, August 21, 2017:  Spiritual Seekers Book Study Group, 6:00–7:30 pm in Bishop Ives Cabin. Tonight we begin our next book, Joyce Hudson’s “Natural Spirituality: A handbook for Jungian Inner Word in Spiritual Community." All are welcome!



No Rummage Sale Next Year

ECW will not be holding a rummage sale next summer. Please remember to take your donations to one of the many thrift stores or charities in the area.

5th Tuesday Potluck

Tuesday, August 29, 2017 5th Tuesday Potluck Dinner in Skiles Hall, 5:30 pm.  All are invited to bring a dish to share and gather in Skiles Hall on Tuesday evening August 29th  at 5:30 pm for a 5th Tuesday Potluck Dinner.  Sponsored by the ECW, "5thTuesday’s provide both an opportunity for fellowship, as well as the opportunity to get to know one another that much better.


ASU Staff Senate, APPKIDS Program Support:  The Vestry has made a $1,500 donation on behalf of Holy Cross to ASU’s Appalachian Kindness in Donations and Service (AppKIDS) Program. Each year, school counselors from all nine schools in Watauga County, select up to 90 children with financial needs and help them shop for essential clothing. 100% of all funds raised go to helping the children. Escorted by ASU volunteers, the children shop for warm clothing, coats, boots and gloves. ASU provides the children with breakfast and lunch on the shopping day which is also filled with additional activities and events.

St. John's Final Concert for the Summer

The concluding St. John's Summer Concert is Sunday, September 3 - American Rogues - An exciting performance of Celtic music as you have never heard it before.  The concert is at 5 pm and costs $5/person.  Please consider bringing a covered dish for the picnic following the concert.

Valle Crucis Community Park Auction

The 34th Annual Valle Crucis Community Park Benefit Auction will be held on Saturday, August 26th in the Apple Barn at the Valle Crucis Conference Center. Breakfast and item preview will open at 9 a.m., and bidding will begin at 9:30. The auction includes gift certificates for local restaurants, retailers, and attractions, new merchandise, art, home goods, and a variety of other great finds!
